Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh and fruity white from the Mâconnais region of Burgundy.
The lowdown:
The vineyards of Pouilly-Vinzelles lie around the villages of Vinzelles and Loché in the southern part of Burgundy. It's an unoaked wine and after fermentation matures for around ten months in stainless steel vats. It has fragrant aromas of citrus fruits, apple and a touch of honey which lead on to a medium bodied palate with good intensity of fruit marked by flavours of honeysuckle and fresh almonds. The bright acidity hold it together thorughout and leads into the fresh, clean finish.
The Producer:
Louis Latour, one of the biggest names in Burgundy, has been around since 1797, starting out in Beaune. While justly famous for their top-notch Grand Crus theyve played a big role in the Burgundian wine trade over the years. Still run by the same family, with the 11th generation now in charge, they offer something at all levels. Their Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru might be the star, but youll find the same quality in their more affordable regional wines. A dependable name on the label whatever the price level.
When to drink:
Medium bodied, the palate has a touch of richness making it a good wine to pair with grilled fish and lighter meat dishes.
