Description
In a nutshell:
A lively, full-bodied organic Chianti Classico with ripe red fruits, gentle spice, and a pleasing earthy depth.
The lowdown:
With fruit sourced from 35-year-old vines in the seven-hectare Cresci vineyard in Chianti Classico, this wine has a vibrant, complex character. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with an elegant bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, delicate spices, and floral hints. It spent 18 months in untoasted casks lending structure without overpowering the fresh fruit profile. On the palate, it's rich with ripe black fruit and juicy tannins, giving a smooth, satisfying texture. Refined and well-balanced, it leaves a clean, persistent finish, making it a very poised expression of Chianti Classico.
The Producer:
Poggiotondo is a family-run estate with roots going back to 1968, when Carlo Antonini, passionate about agriculture and beekeeping, bought three hectares of vines in the western reaches of Chianti. Today, it's grown to a 50-hectare estate, tended by Carlo's son Alberto and his wife, Alessandra. Alberto, a respected winemaker and consultant to award-winning wineries around the globe, brings a meticulous, hands-on approach to things. He crafts pure, expressive wines that stay true to Tuscany's indigenous varieties, including Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, and Trebbiano. Since 2014, all the vineyards have been certified organic.
When to drink:
Hearty Italian dishes like wild mushroom risotto or Tuscan-style grilled steak, work perfectly as the vibrant acidity and earthy depth complement rich, savoury flavours enhancing the depth and character.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
