Description
In a nutshell:
A juicy, easy-drinking Grenache from the south western part of the Languedoc that's packed with dark fruit, a touch of spice, and pleasant touch of warmth.
The lowdown:
This sort of Grenache from the Languedoc is made for easy drinking. Unoaked, it's all about letting the ripe dark berry fruit shine. It's full of rich black fruit and a bit of sweet spice on the nose, followed by deeper berry flavours and a touch of liquorice on the palate. All round, it's dark, soft, and easily enjoyable. A wine with no hard edges - just smooth, juicy pleasure.
The Producer:
Boutinot, the guys responsible for the Pasquiers range, is a big name in the UK's wine scene and are behind many labels seen on shelves up and down the country. Paul Boutinot kicked things off in 1980, starting with importing wines and soon partnering with winemakers around the globe. They've since gone on to produce their own wines from places like the Rhône Valley, Italy, South Africa and many other places. Their secret is in backing passionate winemakers who aren't afraid to push the envelope, always aiming for wines that really capture the essence of their regions. This, along with providing excellent value for money, is something they've really nailed.
When to drink:
A generous, fruit-forward red that's right at home with Mediterranean dishes like grilled lamb, aubergine parmigiana, or a hearty ratatouille. The ripe fruit and soft spice complement the sun-soaked flavours nicely.
