In a nutshell:
A perfectly pale rosé from the Languedoc, light, crisp, and effortlessly refreshing, with a subtle hint of summer berries and a whisper of citrus.
The lowdown:
One that could easily pass itself off a Provençal rosé - it actually comes from a bit further west along the coast in the Languedoc - in most respects apart from the price. Made with sweetly fruited Grenache and tangy Cinsault this makes for a classic rosé de presse. It has a very appealing pale colour while, on the tongue it's luscious and textural with tangy red berry flavours blending well a touch of spice from the Cinsault before it signs off with dry, fresh finish. It's the sort of thing to always have up your sleeve, chilled in the fridge ready to open at the least excuse.
The Producer:
Boutinot, the guys responsible for the Pasquiers range, is a big name in the UK's wine scene and are behind many labels seen on shelves up and down the country. Paul Boutinot kicked things off in 1980, starting with importing wines and soon partnering with winemakers around the globe. They've since gone on to produce their own wines from places like the Rhône Valley, Italy, South Africa and many other places. Their secret is in backing passionate winemakers who aren't afraid to push the envelope, always aiming for wines that really capture the essence of their regions. This, along with providing excellent value for money, is something they've really nailed.
When to drink:
To be fair, a chilled glass of this rosé is rather lovely on its own, but it's a good companion to pasta dishes, or anything from the barbecue or grill.
