DESCRIPTION
A distinctive and fruity Belgian Trappist Beer from the Brasserie d'Orval in the far south of the country.
The lowdown:
One of the most famous and sought after of Begian Trappist beers Orval is dry hopped and bottle fermented which gives it a real herbal quality and this is its defining characteristic which makes it stand out from other beers. With a quite savory feel, a touch of caramel and a strong zesty orange pith flavour, its one of the most distinctive of Trappist beers.
Style - Pale Ale ABV 6.2% - Strong
PRODUCER
Brasserie d'Orval

Orval is one of the six Belgian Trappist breweries and is located within the walls of the Abbaye Notre-Dame d’Orval and is located in the Gaume region. Although records suggest that a brewery has been in situ at the Abbey since its inception, Orval in its current form was established in 1931. It was at this time that independent funds were required to reconstruct the then derelict Abbey. The infant brewery provided for this and continues (as with all Trappist breweries) to fund the ongoing maintenance of the building.
Unusually amongst trappist breweries, Orval was established and run by lay people and to this day monks do not play a direct role in brewing. The brewery only produces two beers; Orval and Petite Orval
