Description
In a nutshell:
Smooth, elegant, and effortlessly refined - Pfalz Pinot Noir showing just how good Germany is at the game.
The lowdown:
German Pinot Noir often leans towards Burgundy in style, thanks to the regions' proximity, and Oliver Zeter's take clearly reflects that influence - though with a bit more warmth and generosity than a classic Côte dOr. Fermented and aged for 10 months in French oak barriques, it's all about balance: ripe red berries, a touch of earthiness, and gentle tannins wrapped up in a silky, rounded texture. There's enough freshness to keep it lively, but nothing too sharp or taut. Elegant, smooth, and subtly structured, it's the kind of Pinot that feels effortlessly refined.
The Producer:
Oliver Zeter didn't inherit a winemaking dynasty - he built one. Coming from a family of wine importers, he struck out on his own in 2007 and, in fairly short order, made a name for himself. Based in the Pfalz, one of Germany's warmer regions, his wines have that ideal mix of ripeness and freshness - more generous than those from the Mosel, or Rheinhessen further north, but still with a bit of zip. The style? Expressive, fruit-forward, and precise, balancing German winemaking tradition with a modern, crowd-pleasing edge. No surprise, then, that they've found plenty of fans well beyond their home turf.
When to drink:
Pretty versatile, but best to steer clear of anything too spicy or heavily seasoned. Roast duck with cherry sauce, pan-seared venison loin, or classic pork tenderloin with mustard mash all work beautifully - rich enough to match its silky texture, but not so bold as to overpower its elegance.
Suitable for Vegans
