Description
In a nutshell:
A bright and very drinkable Piedmontese red.
The lowdown:
This bright, round red from northern Piedmont is a delight. It's crafted primarily from Nebbiolo, the noble grape of the region, but with a twist. Croatina and Vespolina, two lesser-known local varieties, play a crucial supporting role, taming the Nebbiolo's sometimes-austere nature and lending an appealing, youthful drinkability. The nose bursts with vibrant red berries and a hint of spice, while on the palate, sweet cherries and strawberries dance across the tongue, delivering a juicy burst of flavour. It sees no oak, allowing the pure fruit character to shine through and is a refreshing, fruit-filled expression that defies expectations. Nebbiolo-based wines often require years of ageing, but this one manages the rare feat of being utterly enjoyable in its youth.
The Producer:
Still relatively new kids on the block, Noah burst onto the scene in 2010. The husband-and-wife duo of Andrea Mosca and Giovanna Pepe Diaz, looking for a change from their former careers, took a leap of faith to pursue their passion for winemaking. With just four hectares of vines nestled in the unique terroir of the Alto Piemonte, their meticulous approach yields wines of exceptional purity and elegance. Unsurprisingly, Nebbiolo takes centre stage, but they also cultivate two other local varieties, Croatina and Vespolina which add a touch of youthful approachability to leaven Nebbiolos capricious tendencies. Theyre a boutique size winery making very interesting wines.
When to drink:
With a lively acidity that sings alongside the sweet tang of tomato, this wine is made for a bowl of puttanesca or a simple tomato risotto.
Suitable for Vegans
