Description
In a nutshell:
A dry, fruity and refreshing English white blend.
The lowdown:
This likeable English white, made primarily from Huxelrebe, a German grape that has found a home in England, is a great example of a crisp and clean style. It's a dry, fruit-driven blend that showcases pear, grapefruit, and lemon, with lovely notes of honeysuckle and English hedgerow on the nose. There's a supple roundness to it, complemented by a slight saline minerality, leading to a mouthwatering and refreshing finish. Amply enjoyable and refreshing.
The Producer:
Founded in 1969 by Bill and Sheila Greenwood, New Hall Wine Estate in Purleigh, Essex, is one of the older generation of English vineyards that's made the successful transition to the modern day market. They've grown significantly since the 2010s, expanding vineyards and expanding their winery. Located in one of the UK's warmest and sunniest regions, their Essex terrain is perfect for viticulture. Now under the stewardship of the ambitious third generation, they're up among the country's leading producers.
When to drink:
One to pair with oysters, especially if they're Essex ones from Mersea Island.
