Description
In a nutshell:
A lightly perfumed and effortlessly refreshing Greek blend brimming with floral and fruity flavours.
The lowdown:
Pale lemon in colour, this smooth and refreshing blend offers aromas of freshly cut flowers, green apple and juicy stone fruit. It's nicely textured on the palate, with a touch of minerality on the finish which has a generous long finish. It's a blend of two native grapes Moschofilero and Roditis which are hand harvested at full maturity. Each variety was vinified separately with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a short maceration on the fine lees to impart texture and subtle complexity. Easy-going, lightly aromatic and very pleasing.
The Producer
The Laconia peninsula in the far southeast of the Peloponnese was, until the Tsimbidi family started up the Monemvasia Winery in 1997, a neglected corner of Greek wine heritage. It was from this region that the white grape variety Malvasia, which has gone on to be planted across the world, originated. The objective was to return it to its homeland and recommence production in its native land. Having made a success of that they've gone on to plant over 120 hectares of this and other native varieties and their wines now command a growing reputation both at home and abroad.
When to drink:
Would pair well with all types of fish, especially oily types, great for a summer BBQ.
Suitable for Vegans
