Description
In a nutshell:
Intensely fragrant and brimming with Piedmontese elegance, this Gavi di Gavi shines with citrus zest, white flowers, and a crisp, mineral streak that keeps it fresh and precise.
The lowdown:
The Rovereto sub-zone, where this is from, is regarded as Gavi's top spot for refined, age-worthy wines, and Michele Chiarlo's example shows exactly why. Zesty citrus and fresh nettle notes lead into riper stone fruit with a subtle herbal twist. There's real depth and complexity here, with well-balanced acidity keeping everything crisp and focused. The flavours linger beautifully, showing all the pedigree of a serious Gavi.
The Producer:
Michele Chiarlo is one of Piedmont's great winemakers. His family owns 60 hectares of vineyard in three of the classic growing areas - Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi and have access to a further 50 hectares through long-term relationships with their growers. Michele has insisted on total quality since his first vintage in 1956, an ethos which his sons Stefano and Alberto adopt today. The Chiarlo style is elegant and complex and they make wines that can age for decades but above all reflect their provenance - some of the finest vineyard sites in Piedmont.
When to drink:
Lively and generous, this is spot on with sushi, grilled seafood, or spicy Asian dishes. Its crisp acidity and layered fruit keep things fresh while standing up to bold flavours.
