Description
In a nutshell:
Rich, nutty, and elegantly fruity with a subtle toasty charm - it's the sort of Côte de Beaune Burgundy that feels effortlessly on point.
The lowdown:
This is everything people wax lyrical about when it comes to Meursault. A blend of fruit from three village vineyards, it spends 15-16 months maturing in barrels, picking up layers of depth and complexity. There's a luxurious, rich texture, with bright notes of citrus, almonds, and a whisper of green olive and dried hay wafting through. On the palate, you'll find ripe apples, toasted almonds, and a delicate touch of lemon confit. True to Meursault's reputation, it strikes a fine balance between elegance and finesse, with a subtle mineral edge and beautifully judged acidity to tie it all together.
The Producer:
Domaine Latour-Giraud has been a family operation for generations, with the current estate taking shape in 1958 after the Latour and Giraud families joined forces in marriage. Covering around 10 hectares, mostly in Meursault, they're lucky to have vineyards in some excellent spots. Jean-Pierre Latour now runs the estate, focusing on careful winemaking with minimal intervention - no fining or filtration - and the results are quietly impressive. The estate is also moving towards organic production, keeping one eye on tradition and the other on the future an approach that's reflected in the quality of their wines.
When to drink:
Roast turbot with beurre blanc or a creamy chicken fricassée would do nicely here - rich enough to keep up, but not so showy they outshine the wines subtle citrus and almond notes.
