Description
In a nutshell:
A long, complex Rioja brimming with rich black fruit and a hint of sweet spice that lingers deliciously on the palate.
The lowdown:
Sumptuous and silky smooth, this is bursting with intense aromas of black fruits, spice, prunes, dates, black chocolate, and a touch of toffee. Made entirely from Graciano - a lesser-known Rioja gem - it spent 18 months in both French and Romanian oak, giving it a well-structured and dense mouthfeel. The tannins are ripe and concentrated, providing a nice balance to the wine's richness. Expect a long, complex finish dominated by black fruit and spice, with a lovely depth that's satisfying without being over the top. A pleasingly distinctive Rioja.
The Producer:
Situated in the small town of Azagra, on the border of Navarra and Rioja, Bodegas Manzanos is uniquely positioned to produce wines from both renowned regions. Founded in 1890, the real transformation occurred in 2010 when Victor Fernández de Manzanos, his brother David, and Laura Mateo took the helm. They revitalised the winery, introducing cutting-edge equipment and expanding their facilities. Today, they manage several hundred hectares of vines, crafting a diverse array of wines. Their Finca Manzanos, Voché, and Castillo de Enériz ranges brilliantly showcase both contemporary and traditional winemaking styles, embodying the best of both worlds.
When to drink:
This goes brilliantly with Dolcelatte or any blue-veined cheese - a pairing that feels like they were made for each other.
Suitable for Vegans
