Description
In a nutshell:
Super fresh, this Sicilian zinger is bursting with pineapple and citrus
The lowdown:
Deliciously drinkable, this kicks off with grapefruit, fresh peaches and just a whisper of basil on the nose. On the tongue it remains full of bright citrus and stone fruit flavours leading all the way through to a very likably, lingering finish. Grillo is often seen as one of Sicily's workhorse grapes, but the winemakers at Mandrasso make this one really stand out from the crowd.
The Producer:
The Mandrarossa label comes under the umbrella of Cantine Settesoli, the leading cooperative in southwest Sicily. Now operating from its own dedicated winery Mandrarossa increasingly focusses on single site wines with an emphasis on native Sicilian varieties such as Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Grecanico and dry Zibibbo. Minimal intervention in the vineyard and sustainable farming are among their guidelines and an increasing vineyard area is being converted to organic cultivation. They're a dependable source of good quality, good value wines.
When to drink:
Very seductive all by itself, it's also very food friendly especially with fishy pasta dishes.
