Description
In a nutshell:
Assuredly full-blooded, but also intriguingly scented Mendoza Malbec.
The lowdown:
Looking for a deliciously soft and easy-drinking Argentinian Malbec - well, this is what you're after. Just a little (about 5%) of the aromatic white grape Torrontés has been added and it gives an extra, subtly aromatic dimension to things along with a dash of refreshing acidity. To be sure all the bold, chocolatey flavours are there but with a pleasing little twist. There's plenty of body wrapped in a velvety sleek cloak.
The Producer:
Made by the highly regarded Mauricio Lorca who started his career at Argentina's prestigious Catena Zapata winery, followed by stints at Michel Torino in Salta and then as head winemaker at Luigi Bosca in Mendoza. In the early 2000's he set up his own winery in Perdriel a little to the south of Mendoza from where he produces quite a wide range of wines all of which are characteristically well crafted and concentrated, but with real elegance. And the, generally, modest pricing only adds to their appeal.
When to drink:
As always with Mendoza Malbec barbecued and grilled red meats are the ticket, but its easy-drinking character means it also works really well just by itself.
