Description
In a nutshell:
Big, bold, and inky-dark, this full-bodied Californian is all about rich black fruit, a touch of spice, and a velvety finish.
The lowdown:
Powerful, structured, and dark - everything a proper Californian Petite Sirah should be. A few months in oak have lent it a touch of smokiness, while ripe blackberries and dark plums take centre stage, backed up by a swirl of peppery spice. On the palate, it's all about layers - dense, inky fruit, a hint of dark chocolate, and a smooth whisper of vanilla. Firm tannins give it structure, leading to a long, warming finish. An opulent red epitomizing Californian boldness.
The Producer:
Oak Ridge Winery may have only been making wine since 2002, but the Maggio family have been tending vines in Lodi since the 1920s - so they know their way around. With a hefty 1,000 hectares under vine, they're no small operation, yet they've kept things firmly in the family. Rudy Maggio, who snapped up the winery, runs things alongside his three daughters. Their Maggio range is the real jewel in the crown, earning them a solid reputation for top-notch varietals. Big but family-run, traditional yet ambitious - Oak Ridge is Lodi through and through.
When to drink:
This is proper food wine -think ribeye, slow-braised short ribs, or venison. The rich dark fruit and firm tannins stand up to hearty, full-flavoured meats without breaking sweat.
Suitable for Vegans
