M de Moulin Riche, Saint-Julien 2018
A lively, fruit-forward classic Médoc, it brims with ripe blackcurrants, gentle cedar warmth, and an effortless elegance.
Medium-Bodied, Oaked
Vegan, Organic
The Lowdown
Saint-Julien, one of the Médoc's prestigious village appellations, lies between Pauillac and Margaux and is home to Château Moulin Riche. This is their second wine, a blend of Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the estate's younger vines. Six months in seasoned French oak followed by another six in stainless steel allow the components to harmonise beautifully. The result is a fruit-forward Claret with sweet black fruit aromas, a supple, rounded texture, and a firm yet balanced structure that captures the understated elegance of its origins.
The Occasion
At its peak, it pairs beautifully with roast lamb studded with garlic and rosemary or entrecôte steak - both match its sweet black fruit and firm, elegant structure perfectly.
The Producer
Château Moulin Riche is part of the same stable of estates as deuxième cru classé Château Léoville Poyferré and both being in Saint-Julien share viticultural and winemaking facilities. It has 22 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot in the commune of Saint-Julien which have an average age of 25 years. The longtime owners, the Cuvelier family, apply the same rigorous standards across the board and the chief oenologist, Isabelle Davin, ensures that standards are kept up to scratch for all wines of the estates.
