Description
In a nutshell:
Easily enjoyable Brandy de Jerez that's dry and smooth with a long nutty finish.
The lowdown:
Jerez brandies always have a really appealing amber colour and this example from Bodegas Lustau is no exception. It was aged for three years in American oak casks previously used for Amontillado sherry and that has filled it with elegant, toasty oaky aromas that sit alongside notes of vanilla, Seville orange marmalade and hints of walnuts. Altogether quite alluring, this makes the perfect postprandial combination alongside black coffee.
The Producer:
Starting in modest circumstances back in 1896 Lustau originally sold their wines to larger producers rather than market them under their own name. It wasn't until the 1940s that they commenced with their own bottlings and this saw the start of real growth in their reputation. While still a small sherry house by the standards of many they are, nevertheless, one of the most respected and their range of sherries, including the acclaimed Almacenista collection, vermouths and brandies are consistently sought after.
