Valdeorite Cava Brut NV

They might not be Catalonian but that hasn't stopped López Morenas from turning out a pretty neat Cava. Made, like all Cava, in the traditional method, it blends Macabeo and Parellada into a sparkler that feels bright and assured. Aromatic and fruity on the nose, it layers zesty citrus with delicate blossom and subtle wildflower tones, before a lively mousse carries it through to a crisp, dry finish that lingers with floral lift.

Equally at ease as an aperitif or alongside seafood, fried tapas or poultry - its crisp cut proves very versatile indeed.

Despite being out in the wilds of Extremadura, López Morenas is one of Spain's bigger players. What started in 1943 as a family venture in Fuente del Maestre has grown into a third-generation outfit now exporting to more than 70 countries. They're also one of the few wineries outside Catalonia accredited to produce Cava, and also make other characterful wines under the Valdeorite label. Scale hasn't meant cutting corners: modern facilities and a steady hand in the cellar keep the quality consistent across the range.
