Description
In a nutshell:
Savour the flavours of southern Italy with this deliciously fresh, rounded and minerally white from Campania.
The lowdown:
Greco di Tufo is a grape variety with a rich history, having been introduced to the province of Avellino by the Greeks in the 1st century BC. Harvested at the close of October, the grapes for this wine are allowed to rest on their lees for a period of three months prior to bottling. The result is a wine of remarkable freshness, with a clean and crisp character that is balanced by the roundness and ripe fruit character of the warm southern Mediterranean climate. There is a fascinating complexity to this wine, with delicate hints of pear, almond, sage and a kiss of minerality that add to its allure. Apricot and peach stone fruits take centre stage, with supporting notes of pear adding to the wine's excellent balance.
The Producer:
Lapilli, based in the very South-West of the Avellino province, was created in 1996 as a family-run business, and has been meticulously managed by its dedicated team ever since. They're blessed with some of the best vineyard sites in and around the towns of Montefusco, Tufo, Benevento, Ponte, Torrecuso and on the hills of Lapio, Forino and Candida. Winemaker Marco Flacco, with many years of experience, has brought a fresh approach to the winery's activities and objectives, and is an enthusiastic advocate of clean, varietal flavours. In a region traditionally renowned for its premium wines, Lapilli have made things a little more accessible in terms of price without compromising on quality. The result is a range of enticing, elegant wines that represent good value for money and still boast outstanding varietal aromas and flavours.
When to drink:
This is such a tasty and refreshing option that it's great all by itself, but it also pairs nicely with white meats, fish, and seafood.
