Krohn Late Bottled Vintage 2019
A deliciously full, spicy and fruity, unfiltered LBV
The Lowdown
Krohn's LBV is unfined and unfiltered and this is a key difference between it and many of the others out there. This does mean it might have a sediment, just like vintage port, and will need decanting, but the upside of this is that it has a depth and intensity of flavour that many other LBVs can't match. After fermentation it's aged in barrel for between four and six years before bottling and has a deep ruby colour and wave after wave of spicy black fruit aromas. On the tongue vibrant plum and blackberry flavours, layered with soft spices, fresh acidity and ripe tannins give it a full and rich character. Rounding off with an impressive length this is quite an eye-catching port.
The Occasion
It might be wise to decant this and you'll find it perfect with blue cheese or mature cheddar.
The Producer
Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn and, in their early years concentrated mainly on German and Scandinavian markets. However over time, even though remaining a small house, they’ve built up an outstanding reputation on a wider stage. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range, and all of their wines excel in their category.
