Description
In a nutshell:
Fruity and bright with citrus and a touch of brioche, this biodynamic Crémant from Alsace is full of flavour, with a clean, gently expressive style.
The lowdown:
This low-sulphur Alsatian Crémant is made in the traditional method from a blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot gris. True to their biodynamic approach, no sulphur's added during vinification or disgorgement, so what you get is pure, characterful fizz. It's properly expressive on the nose, with ripe apple and a touch of brioche, and that carries through to the palate where lemon, lime and a bit of mineral zip take over. The bubbles are soft and easygoing, not too pushy, and the finish is refreshingly long. Elegant stuff, but without taking itself too seriously.
The Producer:
Clement Klur is the man behind Vignoble Klur, in the picturesque Alsatian village of Katzenthal. He's a long-time advocate of organic and biodynamic practices and is dedicated to crafting wines that truly reflect the local terroir. Everything here is done as naturally as possible, with minimal sulphite use. Clement is known for pushing the boundaries of what's achievable in winemaking, and the results are full of intense flavours and texture, guaranteed to linger long in both the mouth and memory. Authenticity and a deep connection to the land are what it's about here.
When to drink:
Spot on with poached salmon and dill, chicken fricassée, or even a retro mushroom vol-au-vent - it's a good aperitif too, thanks to those soft bubbles and bright, easygoing fruit.
