Description
In a nutshell:
Fresh, crisp and zesty easy-drinking South African Sauvignon Blanc.
The lowdown:
As with all Stellenbosch based Kleine Zalze's wines great care and thought goes into both the vineyard and the winery. The grapes for their Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc come from vineyards all within 10 miles of the ocean with plenty of cooling breezes to moderate the temperatures and help provide crisp acidity. Harvest takes place early in the morning to preserve freshness and aromatics with all the plots vinified separately at low temperatures. The result is really everything you want from a New World Sauvignon Blanc and is again testament to South Africa's ability to produce some of the world's best value wines.
Intense fresh aromas of white peach, passionfruit and tropical notes lead onto a refreshing crisp and vibrant palate with zesty fruit, green herbaceous and minerally, flinty notes.
The Producer:
Klein Zalze, nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands, was revitalised when Kobus Basson purchased the estate in 1996. Although winemaking has been a part of this land since 1695, it's the recent investment and methodical approach that have catapulted Klein Zalze to prominence. In just 20 years, it has become one of the most awarded estates in Stellenbosch. Their wines are a true reflection of the region's terroir, showcasing a perfect blend of tradition and modern winemaking techniques.
When to drink:
Great on its own as an aperitif or try with a range of light seafood dishes, salads, asparagus or Asian cuisine.
