Description
German Style Weiss & Hefeweizen
England: London
ABV 5.2% - 50.0cl
In a Nutshell:
Inspired by classic German Hefeweizens, this has got all the soft banana and clove you'd expect, but with a modern, hoppy lift and a hazy, super-smooth finish.
The Lowdown:
Hopfenweisse translates to Hoppy Wheat, which gives you a bit of an idea of what to expect here. Inspired by traditional German Hefeweizen, Kernel's version dials up the hops well beyond the classic style. Brewed with malt, torified wheat, and a rotating cast of hop varieties, it's got a soft sweetness and light floral lift, followed by a firm, refreshing bitterness. Unfiltered, hazy, and modern, it's a fresh twist on an old-school favourite.
The Brewery
The Kernel was brewing in Bermondsey before the now-famous Beer Mile was even a thing. Founded in 2009 by Evin O'Riordan, it set the standard that many others would follow - proper, no-nonsense beer with a focus on quality over hype. And they're not one of those trendy craft brewery brands that started small but sold out to the corporates when the big boys came knocking. The Kernel's indie credentials and credibility are as strong today as they were when they started.
