Description
In a nutshell:
A triple-distilled, smooth and quintessential blend that pretty much defines what Irish whiskey's all about.
The lowdown:
The world's best-selling Irish whiskey didn't get there by accident. Triple distilled for smoothness, it's a classic blend of pot still and fine grain whiskeys aged for at least four years in oak. The result? A well-balanced drop with gentle spice, soft vanilla, a touch of nuttiness and just a hint of sweet sherry. Approachable, mellow, and unmistakably Irish - it's a great introduction to the style.
The Producer:
Jameson might be the biggest name in Irish whiskey today, but it all started back in 1780 when a Scotsman, John Jameson, set up his distillery on Bow Street in Dublin. They rode the whiskey boom of the 1800s in style, only to be hit hard by the 20th century - Prohibition in the States and the rise of Scotch made life tricky. By the 1960s, Jameson had joined forces with a handful of other survivors to form Irish Distillers, and production moved down to Midleton in Cork. These days, they're firmly back on top - right at the heart of Irish whiskey's revival and still championing the smooth, mellow, easygoing style they're known for.
