Description
In a nutshell:
A mature and ripe Pinot Noir from one of the most famous vineyard sites in Switzerland.
The lowdown:
Introduced in 2013 as a companion to the renowned white, this delightful old vine Pinot Noir is a real gem. Blended with a touch of Gamay and the local varieties Gamaret and Garanoir, it offers a unique twist. Sweet caramel and dark berry aromas invite you in, followed by flavours of cherries, blackcurrants, and a creamy hint of vanilla. It has a bit more heft than many Pinots, providing a satisfyingly full mouthful. While Swiss Pinot Noir is a rarity, this one stands out as a particularly well-crafted example.
The Producer:
Founded in 1908 in the quaint town of Aigle, at the eastern end of Lake Geneva, Maison Henri Badoux has steadily grown into a well-known Swiss winery and their flagship range, "Aigle les Murailles", is particularly celebrated. If youve ever driven through the upper Rhône valley, you might have noticed the distinctive retaining walls propping up the steep vineyards - these are the 'Murailles' that give the wines their name. It's a nod to the rugged beauty of the region and the dedication of the winemakers. The winery's reputation mirrors the steady, unpretentious charm of its origins.
When to drink:
Try with meatier fish, salad Nicoise, or something like a Wiener schnitzel.
Suitable for Vegans
