This dark beauty has a surprisingly sharp, crisp tang, balanced by subtle hints of roasted barley and a lingering bittersweet finish.

The Lowdown

This iconic black stout, with its dense, creamy head, is the direct descendant of the early 19th-century porters that forged a brewing empire. Its sharp and crisp character contrasts a bit with the smooth sweetness of the draught version and its roasted barley flavours mingle with a hoppy, slightly bitter aroma giving a real bite and builds to a refreshing, bittersweet finish. Not just a beer, more a piece of brewing history.

The Producer

The story of Guinness begins in 1759, when Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on the St. James's Gate brewery in Dublin. Originally brewing ales, he soon shifted to porters, but with a twist - using nitrogen-rich Irish barley for a smoother mouthfeel and that signature creamy head. Unlike the harsher stouts of the time, Guinness was silky, balanced, and became a sensation. By the 19th century, it wasn't just a beer - it was Ireland in a glass and right to this day very little has changed.
