Description
In a nutshell:
An elegant and well balanced white from the northern Portuguese region of Dão.
The lowdown:
This is a great introduction to Dão white wines and is made with a blend of local graoe varieties featuring mainly Encruzado and Malvasia Fina. It's light and elegant with aromas of pear, pineapple and citrus fruit balanced with a minerally, clean backbone of acidity.
The Producer:
At Quinta dos Carvalhais, a beautiful property near the village of Mangualde in the Dão region of northern Portugal, the vineyards are devoted to regional grape varieties making wines that reflect the area's long vinous heritage. Here they combine traditional winemaking practices with up-to-date techniques and create an impressive range of wines. Being part of the Sogrape Group, one of Portugal's biggest wine businesses, theyre well-resourced and have highly experienced winemakers such as Beatriz Cabral de Almeida to call on to make sure quality lives up to the tradition and reputation of the Dão region.
When to drink:
It's a good 'any occasion' white to drink as an aperitif and it also matches very well with rice, salads, and fish dishes.
