Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, juicy and quite velvety blend of Merlot and Corvina from the Veneto region of Northeast Italy.
The lowdown:
This beguiling red wine is made in the traditional 'apassimento' style, with the grapes being allowed to hang on the vine and harvested late, during the first weeks of October. The berries partially dry, which concentrates the juice, sugars and flavours in the grape, adding to the finished wine's complexity. Following fermentation the wine spends 3-4 months ageing in oak barrels. The resulting wine is vibrant purple in colour, velvety in texture with flavours of ripe bitter-sweet black morello cherry, accompanied by notes of vanilla, Christmas spice and toasty mocha. It's gloriously silky and smooth at the lengthy finish.
The Producer:
Based in the heart of the Veneto, family-owned Casa Vinicola Botter has built a reputation for crafting consistently enjoyable wines that reflect the diverse terroirs of Italy. They've achieved this by sourcing grapes from vineyards that stretch from their northeastern home base all the way down to sunny Sicily. While Botter offers a range of wines, they excel at producing wallet-friendly regional and varietal bottlings that express the character of their origin while not compromising on quality.
When to drink:
With a really easy appeal this is great for roasted or grilled meats and with game is superb.
Suitable for Vegans
