Description
In a nutshell:
Fresh, light and aromatic modern style of Ruby Port.
The lowdown:
Blend No.12 is Graham's first ever port made with the idea of blending and mixing. The grapes are picked in the cool of the night from Graham's highest vineyards to capture that freshness and natural acidity and then, almost uniquely in the region, undergoes a cold fermentation, with this slower process preserving those primary fruit aromas. Both a perfect introduction to Ruby Port while also offering something different for fans.
The Producer:
Established in 1820 in Oporto, W & J Graham is one of the Port trade's famous names and has long been synonymous with some of the greatest Vintage Ports. The Symington family acquired the company in 1970. At the heart of Graham's Port is the famous Quinta dos Malvedos in the upper reaches of the Douro Valley. The old winery was completely renovated in 2000 and is now equipped with three revolutionary robotic lagares that 'tread' the grapes. Alongside these are the ancient granite lagares where some of the harvest is still trodden by human foot. The neighbouring Quinta do Tua and Quinta das Lages in the Rio Torto valley are key vineyards for Graham's, as are the privately family owned Quintas of Vila Velha and Vale de Malhadas.
When to drink:
Try over ice and topped up with tonic for a white port & tonic or G&T alternative, or pour over ice then top up with dry sparkling wine for a Douro spritz!
