Grace Koshu Kayagatake 2023
Elegance and delicacy personified in this fresh Japanese white.
The Lowdown
There's no denying the exquisite delicacy of this light and floral Japanese white, made from Koshu, Japan's signature grape. Grapefruit, chamomile, and just a whiff of white pepper on the nose lead to a bone-dry minerality on the tongue. This wine stays lively and fresh, with a refined structure that carries all the way through to a mouthwatering finish.
The Occasion
Great on its own, or serve it alongside shellfish or delicate fish dishes.
The Producer
Grace Wine, founded in 1923, is one of Japan's small band of independent wine producers and is in the Yamanashi prefecture, about an hour west of Tokyo. This family-run winery, led by the Misawa family since its inception, cultivates both local and international grape varieties. However, their export focus is predominantly on the indigenous Koshu grape, Japan's most important variety. In a field dominated by conglomerates like Suntory and Asahi, Grace Wine stands out as a bastion of quality and independence.
