Description
Champagne
Brut
ABV 12.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A beautifully poised vintage Champagne led by Chardonnay - bright, layered and full of the precision that defines Gosset's style.
The Lowdown:
Plenty of Chardonnay in the mix this year, and it shows. The 2016 Grand Millésime opens with a gleam of citrus and white flowers before unfolding into pear, nougat and almond. There's breadth and generosity here, but it's held firmly in check by that trademark Gosset tension - the result of skipping malolactic fermentation to keep every edge sharp. Eight years on lees bring texture and depth, yet it stays brisk and focused from start to finish. A fine, tightly structured vintage Champagne that reflects the house style at its most exact.
The Producer:
Founded in Aÿ in 1584, Gosset is Champagne's oldest house and one that's always done things its own way. While not a household name like Bollinger or Roederer, it's widely revered among Champagne drinkers who know their stuff. The style is distinctive: full-bodied and vinous, yet sharpened by a trademark tension that comes from avoiding malolactic fermentation. Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims gives weight and depth, Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs adds clarity and finesse, and a touch of Meunier rounds the blend. The result is Champagne that's rich and expressive without losing precision - elegant, gastronomic, and unmistakably Gosset.
When to Drink:
Chardonnay-Led - Pear & Almond - Taut Finish
Brut
