Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, fruit-forward Speyside with layers of oak and vanilla - smooth, full-flavoured, and well put together.
The lowdown:
This isn't your typical Speyside - and that's exactly why it stands out. While the fruit and vanilla are there, they're wrapped in richer layers of spice and oak, thanks to a mix of American oak, Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. GlenAllachie's long fermentations and hands-on cask work give it real depth and texture - less dainty afternoon dram, more fireside sipper with proper presence. It's a distinctive style that clearly impressed the judges too - this was named World's Best Single Malt at the 2025 World Whisky Awards.
The Distillery:
The GlenAllachie Distillery isn't one of the old guard - it was built in 1967 to supply blends and kept a low profile for years. But its 2017 sale by Chivas to Billy Walker (formerly of BenRiach) changed everything. Now one of the few independent Scotch distilleries, GlenAllachie finally had the freedom to forge its own identity - and it's made the most of it. With long fermentations, thoughtful cask selection, and a move into peated styles, it's carved out a distinctive voice in a crowded market. From workhorse to rising star, GlenAllachie's reinvention has been nothing short of remarkable.
