Description
In a nutshell:
With bright red fruit, a hint of spice, and silky tannins this is an elegant Côte Chalonnaise red with just a bit of down-to-earth warmth.
The lowdown:
This is an old vine Givry with a subtle, slightly earthy feel that's both intriguing and inviting. Sourced from a 1.25-hectare plot of 50-year-old vines, it spends 12 months in mainly used oak, allowing its flavours to shine. Dark fruits - think cassis, blackberry, and raspberry - are layered with hints of vanilla and spice, creating a wine with lovely texture and depth. It's a concentrated yet delicate Pinot that balances elegance with authentic character. Excellent value for a Côte Chalonnaise wine of this provenance.
The Producer:
Domaine Ragot, based in Givry, a family-run estate since the 18th century, is now overseen by Nicolas Ragot, who took charge in 2008. With 9 hectares of mostly Pinot Noir, it's a small operation, but one that's made its mark. Since his time at the helm Nicolas has extended the vineyards, built a new winery, and adopted sustainable farming, keeping traditions intact while moving with the times. Known for its careful winemaking and consistent quality, the domaine is widely regarded as one of the most reliable in Givry.
When to drink:
A lovely match for Normandy pork chops in cider or a creamy chicken fricassée, where its dark fruits and subtle spice cut through the richness with just the right balance.
Suitable for Vegans
