Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, floral and fruit filled single estate XO Cognac from the historic house of Frapin
The lowdown:
Made entirely from grapes grown, distilled and aged at Frapins's home Château Fontpinot this single vineyard Cognac is the only one in the region entitled to affix the name Château to the label and all Frapin's vineyards are in the Grand Champagne zone from where the best fruit comes from. It's aged for many years in their dry cellars which gives it its particular character. Subtle and complex on the nose there's candied fruit, hazelnut and marzipan aromas which is followed by a rich, balanced and complex palate with dried fruits, spicy ginger and hints of bitter orange marmalade mingling on the tongue. It's rich and full flavoured but still has the subtlety and elegance for which Frapin is well known.
The Producer:
Frapin is one of the oldest Cognac houses, with a history tracing back to 1270. Remarkably, it remains a family concern, still owned by a descendant of the founder. Initially starting as winegrowers, Frapin quickly established a reputation for distilling, which became their hallmark. They own 240 hectares of vineyards around their home at Château Fontpinot in the village of Segonzac. All their vines are located in the Grande Champagne zone, known for being the best sites in the region. Every bottle of their Cognac, including the distinguished 'Trésors du Château' range of aged and vintage Cognacs, is produced entirely on their estate.
