Frangelico
A surprisingly delicate hazlenut and herb liqueur originating in the Piedmont hills of northern Italy.
Vegan
The Lowdown
Frangelico is made from toasted Tonda Gentile hazelnuts from Piedmont combined with coffee, cocoa and vanilla. The result is a sweet, yet well balanced liqueur with a rich texture with a delicate hazelnut flavour with hints of vanilla and dark chocolate. It's wonderfully smooth with a long, lingering finish. It makes a good ingredient in a surprising number of drinks and worth trying in a shot glass poured straight from the freezer.
The Producer
First created in 1978, the origins of Frangelico, the popular hazelnut and herb liqueur, reputedly lie in a drink made by monks in the hills of Piedmont during the seventeenth century. It's named after one of their number, Father Angelico, and as a reminder comes in a bottle shaped like a monk's habit complete with rope belt.
