In a nutshell: A full-bodied German winter seasonal bock bier brewed in Schleswig-Holstein by Flensburger Brauerei.
The lowdown: From Germany's far north near the Danish border and only available during the winter this is a strong, spicy, full-bodied bock beer. With a golden amber colour it has a subtle hoppiness and a rich malty backbone. Slips down easily and is a bit stronger than you might think.
Flensburger is Germany's most northerly brewery. Located within throwing distance of Denmark and close to the Baltic the brewery still draw water from their own well which is apparently supplied by a melting Ice Age glacier with its source in Scandinavia. Their Pilsener put the brewery on the map and remains the best selling beer to date. A hallmark of all bottled beer from Flensburger is the swing top closure hence their advertising strapline of plop-top.
