Description
In a nutshell:
Chilean Cabernet with true finesse, with all the structure and elegance of a fine Bordeaux.
The lowdown:
Errazuriz's flagship red is a sophisticated Bordeaux Blend from their best vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley. Led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with dashes of Carmenere, Malbec, and Petit Verdot adding depth and character, it's packed with ripe blackcurrant and plum, lifted by a floral touch and a streak of minerality. The tannins are silky and smooth, giving a polished, lingering finish. After 22 months in French oak (two-thirds new), subtle hints of spice emerge alongside the dark fruit core. Refined, elegant, and beautifully balanced - this is one of Chile's finest reds and worth every penny.
The Producer:
Viña Errazuriz was founded in 1870 by Don Maximiano Errazuriz, a man with a keen eye for terroir. He saw potential in the Aconcagua Valley's cool winters, hot summers and cooling Pacific breezes, and transformed barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, his descendant Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation at the helm, continues the focus on quality. Modern winemaking techniques sit alongside a dedication to preserving the estate's unique character. Look out for their estate-grown wines - they're a testament to Errazuriz's enduring place amongst Chile's leading family-owned producers.
When to drink:
Worth decanting to let those dark fruit and spice notes shine. Perfect with roast lamb, venison, or beef wellington - rich dishes that do it justice. It'll easily age another decade.
