Description
In a nutshell:
A velvety Chilean red packed with ripe cherry, a touch of spice, and just the right hint of dark chocolate.
The lowdown:
A sip of this Chilean red reveals a smooth and velvety texture, bursting with ripe cherry flavours. Hints of dried fruit like figs and dates peek through, followed by subtle whispers of coffee, clove and chocolate. This effortless elegance comes courtesy of the Carmenere grape, flourishing in its adopted home the Aconcagua Valley. Handpicked grapes were double-sorted for quality and gently crushed before spending 14 months maturing in French oak barrels, resulting in a wine that's both complex and pleasingly subtle.
The Producer:
Viña Errazuriz was founded in 1870 by Don Maximiano Errazuriz, a man with a keen eye for terroir. He saw potential in the Aconcagua Valley's cool winters, hot summers and cooling Pacific breezes, and transformed barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, his descendant Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation at the helm, continues the focus on quality. Modern winemaking techniques sit alongside a dedication to preserving the estate's unique character. Look out for their estate-grown wines - they're a testament to Errazuriz's enduring place amongst Chile's leading family-owned producers.
When to drink:
This spicy number begs for a plate of something robust - think chilli, chorizo, and all the trimmings.
