Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett 2023

The green bottle's a bit of a giveaway - classic Mosel, where Riesling grows on impossibly steep slatey slopes and comes out feather-light and full of charm. As a Kabinett, this is at the lighest end of the spectrum - low in alcohol, off-dry with fresh, crisp acidity making it seriously easy to drink. There's loads going on too: exotic fruit, a little spice, silky texture, zippy lift, and a clean, mineral finish. At just 8% ABV, it still packs in plenty of flavour. Bright, fresh, and a textbook example of Mosel Riesling done very well.

Great with pork and apple sausages, Vietnamese prawn rolls, or sweet and sour chicken - the off-dry style with bright acidity shows what this kind of Riesling is so good at.

Dr Loosen is one of the big names in German wine - and for good reason. Based in the Mosel Valley, this family-run estate has been making Riesling for over 200 years, and under Ernst Loosen's watch since the late ’80s, things have only got better. The steep, slate-covered slopes of their vineyards produce seriously classy fruit, and the wines are full of that trademark Mosel elegance and mineral bite. Tradition's still a big part of what they do, but there's plenty of forward thinking too - and the focus on quality and sustainability runs right through the range.
