Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh, rich and fruity white from the Roussillon Mediterranean coast.
The lowdown:
Madeloc's Tremadoc is a blend of 60% Grenache Gris, 30% Vermentino and 10% Roussanne with each parcel hand-harvest, vinified and matured for 8 months in old barrels before blending. This a really fruit forward yet elegant, highly enjoyable wine. Pronounced aromas of white blossom, ripe citrus and juicy nectarines lead onto a lovely rich and rounded palate with a real balanced freshness and hints of white pepper spice and fennel among those ripe stone fruit notes. The flavours persist onto a long and rewarding finish.
The Producer:
Pierre Gaillard left Roussillon to study oenology in the 1970s and cut his teeth as a vineyard manager for Guigal in the Northern Rhône before going on the establish his own estate in the region. However, Catalan country still pulled at his heart strings and so he bought Domaine Madeloc back in 2002. A small but stunning estate sat on steep coastal slopes that reach down to the Mediterranean near the small town of Banyuls in the Collioure appellation. The climate here is dry and hot, the soils schist, but with the constant cooling sea breezes this is a hard but highly rewarding place to make wine.
When to drink:
Perfect with simple grilled white fish as well as tuna, salmon or trout. Try also with creamy pasta dishes or paella.
Suitable for Vegans
