Description
In a nutshell:
An impressively aromatic Lebanese white, bursting with ripe stone fruit, citrus, and delicate floral notes, all wrapped up with a fresh, lifted finish.
The lowdown:
You might pick up a Rhône-like Viognier character in this stylish Bekaa Valley white - and with two-thirds of the blend being Viognier, that's no surprise. High-altitude vineyards help it lean towards the Rhône's aromatic style, keeping things bright and lifted. Fermented and matured in stainless steel, it's all about freshness, with spicy white peach and a sublime jasmine perfume leading the way. The palate bursts with peach and apricot flavours, underpinned by an elegant mineral backbone. Beautifully balanced, refreshing yet complex - it shows Lebanese Viognier in a really good light.
The Producer:
Domaine des Tourelles, founded in 1868 by Frenchman François-Eugène Brun, holds the title of the oldest winery in Lebanon. The Brun family maintained ownership until 2003, when it was passed to the Lebanese Issa and Issa el-Khoury families, who have since brought the estate into the 21st century. Their vineyards, situated in the prime locations of the Bekaa Valley, are organically farmed. In the winery, they adopt a minimal intervention philosophy, using natural yeasts for fermentation and avoiding fining or filtration, with minimal sulphur use. Not just the oldest, Domaine des Tourelles is also one of Lebanon's finest wineries.
When to drink:
Bright and aromatic, this is a great match for grilled seabream with lemon and herbs or a classic ratatouille. Its fresh acidity and floral lift keep things lively, making sure no flavour overstays its welcome.
Suitable for Vegans
