Description
In a nutshell:
A well-balanced Lebanese red, overflowing with ripe red fruit and a depth that gives it real presence without being overbearing.
The lowdown:
A quintessential Bekaa Valley blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsault, and Carignan, this reflects the region's French influence while being firmly Lebanese in style. It's powerful yet fresh, spicy yet smooth - benchmark Lebanon. Aged for up to two years in concrete vats, it bursts with dark cherries, cedar wood, rosemary, and cloves on the nose. The palate brings rich, savoury depth, beautifully balanced by fine tannins. Structured yet inviting, it's a wine that shows exactly why Lebanons reds deserve attention. For value and character, this is about as good as it gets..
The Producer:
Domaine des Tourelles, founded in 1868 by Frenchman François-Eugène Brun, holds the title of the oldest winery in Lebanon. The Brun family maintained ownership until 2003, when it was passed to the Lebanese Issa and Issa el-Khoury families, who have since brought the estate into the 21st century. Their vineyards, situated in the prime locations of the Bekaa Valley, are organically farmed. In the winery, they adopt a minimal intervention philosophy, using natural yeasts for fermentation and avoiding fining or filtration, with minimal sulphur use. Not just the oldest, Domaine des Tourelles is also one of Lebanon's finest wineries.
When to drink:
Eastern Mediterranean through and through, match it up with slow-cooked lamb tagine or a spicy chickpea and tomato stew. Its rich fruit and savoury spice stand up beautifully to warming, aromatic flavours.
