Description
In a nutshell:
Fresh and ripe with citrus at its core, this delicious white from southwest France is bright and beautifully balanced.
The lowdown:
White wines from southwest France often feature grapes you won't find elsewhere, and this is a great example from the Jurançon area. A blend of Gros Manseng and the tricky-to-grow Lauzet, it demonstrates Cauhapé's skill for turning challenges into triumphs. Bursting with ripe citrus, white stone fruits, and a hint of spice, it's crisp and refreshing with a concentrated mix of lemon, tropical, and stony flavours, all wrapped up in a tangy, slightly spicy edge. One that goes to show lesser-known varieties can produce wines just as distinctive and impressive as the headline acts..
The Producer:
Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, just outside Pau, Domaine Cauhapé has been flying the flag for Jurançon wines since the 1970s. Henri Ramonteau made the leap from cattle farming to winemaking, and it's fair to say it paid off - these days, they're one of the top names in the region. They're very much about focussing on local grape varieties, making both dry whites and the famous sweet wines Jurançon is known for, while keeping things sustainable and forward-thinking in the vineyards. The result is vines that thrive and wines that shine.
When to drink:
Perfect with tapas, sushi, or lightly spiced Asian dishes, its citrusy freshness and tangy edge complement vibrant flavours beautifully. Open early to let its aromas fully unfold.
