Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, intense and fruit laden Venezuelan rum which has been aged for an average of 12 years.
The lowdown:
Distilled in copper pot stills and matured in whiskey barrels for up to twelve years, it's a really intense and concentrated example of Diplomatico's characteristic style being superbly rich, characterful and complex. There are notes of fruit cake, rum'n'raisin ice cream, cocoa, dried ginger, cinnamon, clove, fudge sauce, chewy toffee notes, orange zest in there all creating a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas. It's a superb sipping rum and also great in classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
The Producer:
Diplomatico Rum has been made in the Venezuelan town of La Miel since 1959. It lies on the edge of the majestic Terepaima National Park with easy access to sugar refineries and an abundant supply of pure water. The Diplomatico range consistently wins awards and they're recognized as one of the best South American rums. The distillery at La Miel has a total of seven stills (3 pot and 4 column) each of which produce a different style of rum from the top-grade molasses they use. The labels show a portrait of one Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez who travelled extensively though the Caribbean sampling all the rums of the different locations he visited. And his impressive collection became quite well known, gaining the moniker 'The Ambassador's Reserves'. Hence the name given to the label produced in his honour.
