Description
Dark Ale, Dubbel & Quadrupel
Belgium
ABV 8.0% - 33.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A dry, bitter-sweet Belgian Christmas ale with a bit more subtlety than you often get.
The Lowdown:
A proper winter seasonal that's a Belgian Strong Ale with a bit of a twist, sidestepping the more syrupy, spice-laden affairs for something more refined. Malt and hops lead the way, with caramel, biscuit, and plum pudding notes, joined by hints of mandarin and liquorice. Dry, bitter, and warming - perfect to keep the cold at bay.
The Brewery:
Brasserie de la Senne, founded in 2003 by Bernard Leboucq and Yvan De Baets, has had quite an influence on Brussels' indie beer scene. Well before the fashion for noticeably hoppy beers came along, they were crafting bitter, aromatic beers with a purpose. Sticking to traditional methods, they balance character with restraint - no showy gimmicks. And they dabble in barrel-aged and mixed-fermented brews too. Distinctive beers, distinctively Brussels.
