Description
In a nutshell:
A smooth, aromatic Highland Single malt with a hint of heather and delightful honeyed sweetness.
The lowdown:
For a fifteen year old malt this is great value for money and one highly regarded by the Whisky Bible's Jim Murray. It's gentle, smooth and refreshingly subtle with flavours of creamy vanilla, heather and manuka honey with just a hint of Highland smoke beofre the long malty and nutty finish.
A single malt with a wonderful palette of flavours and a clean, crisp character.
The Producer:
Standing in the Cairngorm National Park in the village from which it takes its name, Dalwhinnie is the highest working distillery in Scotland. Founded just before the dawn of the 20th century, it was originally known as Strathspey. In 1905, it changed its name to Dalwhinnie and was sold to American distiller Cook & Bernheimer, becoming the first in a long line of distilleries under foreign ownership. Despite its remote location, proximity to the main railway connecting the lowlands with Inverness made market access easier. Today, Dalwhinnie is part of Diageo's empire, with its single malts prominently featured in their 'classic malts' range.
