CVNE Monopole, Rioja Rosado 2025
An aromatic, pale and dry Rioja rosado with a generous stone-fruit and floral character, firm refreshing acidity and a long finish that gives it a nice bit of substance.
The Lowdown
Rioja rosados aren't wines to be typecast. This might be a fashionably pale one, but that doesn't mean it's delicate and demure. A blend of Tempranillo and Viura gives it backbone, with peach, apricot and a whisper of citrus layered over soft florality. Crisp and mouth-watering, with juicy fruit running right through, and modestly priced too — this is a rosé that'll keep most people happy.
The Occasion
Very much an any-time, any-crowd rosé, happy as an aperitif or sat alongside dinner. Fish is the obvious pairing, though it does just as well with a salad or a picnic lunch.
The Producer
Founded in 1879, CVNE, or 'Compañia Vinicola del Norte de España', has become a cornerstone of Spanish winemaking. Still based in Haro, where it all began, this family-run winery has maintained its roots while growing into one of Spain’s largest vineyard owners. Known for their exceptional Rioja, they produce under several labels: 'Cune', 'Imperial', 'Viña Real', and 'Contino'. And their wines are a byword for tradition and quality.
