The lowdown:
Boasting a dark, inviting hue this delicious Crozes-Hermitage has aromas of blackberry jam and roast beef which tantalize the senses, leading to a satisfyingly dry palate. The ripe tannins intertwine seamlessly with the velvety texture and while not overly full-bodied, it possesses a remarkable impact, presence, and length. Masterful use of oak only enhances its complexity and elegance.
The Producer:
Domaine Laurent Fayolle is a small, family run estate in the village of Gervans that sits on the banks of the Rhône just north of Tain lHermitage. It's run by Laurent Fayolle and his sister Céline and they have 13 hectares of organically farmed vines mainly in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation from where they produce their excellent range of reds and whites. They recently upgraded their winery and are now able to move wines by gravity which is more environmentally sustainable and friendlier to the maturing wines.
When to drink:
A very versatile syrah, this will go with most meaty fare from a shepherds pie to a Beef Wellington.
