Description
In a nutshell:
A crisp, refreshing Gascon white with lively citrus, green apple, and subtle floral notes.
The lowdown:
This Gascon blend of Colombard, Gros Manseng, and Ugni Blanc is a clean, modern expression of the region's best. It's unoaked but, thanks to a period on its lees, it has a touch more weight and aromatic complexity than typical southwest French whites. Expect aromas of white peach, pineapple, and nectarine, with lively citrus notes on the palate, all lifted by a fresh, vibrant acidity. The result is both refreshing and nicely weighted, with a lasting, clean finish.
The Producer:
Duffour Père et Fils has been family-owned since 1955 and is widely regarded as one of central Gascony's top estates. Now led by Nicolas Duffour, who took over from his father Michel in 2004, the domaine boasts vineyards on sunny, south-facing slopes, ensuring consistent fruit ripening and excellent drainage. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are rooted in a mix of clay and limestone soils, lending depth to the wines. Unlike many in this fertile region, Duffour Père et Fils encourages low yields through careful pruning, creating wines of remarkable concentration and character.
When to drink:
Lovely with fresh seafood, crisp salads, a bit of tangy goat's cheese, or simply as a refreshing aperitif.
