Connemara Original Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey
A light, fruity and distinctively smoky single malt Irish Whiskey
The Lowdown
Named after the wild and remote part of western Ireland Connemara is, unusually for Irish Whiskeys, a peated single malt. And if you're a fan of classic Islay whiskies this is certainly one to take a look at. It's light and fruity with a distinctive smoky, peaty aroma. Silky smooth on the palate and with a fruity and malty flavours giving way to full bodied peat it's certainly got plenty going on. The finish is nicely honeyed followed by a blast of pungent peat smoke to sign off with.
The Producer
Cooley Distillery, from County Louth has a knack for producing both single malt and grain whiskies; they’re the ones behind beloved brands like Kilbeggan and Connemara. Founded in 1987 by John Teeling, Cooley’s approach is refreshingly traditional, employing double distillation and a mix of peat and non-peat malts. They been part of the Beam Suntory drinks empire since 2012. Their spirit carries a certain rustic charm, a nod to its craft heritage.
